RYA Level 2 Powerboat Training Course

18 - 19 May, 09:30 - 16:00

Joining Instructions

Bring a packed lunch. You are likely to be hungrier than usual. Facilities for making hot drinks will usually be available.

Plenty of dry clothes & towel.

When powerboating, we generally do not expect to fall in to the water but it is a constant risk in any water-based activity. It is a condition of the course that you wear a buoyancy aid when near or on the water.

In general, powerboating continues in weather conditions when sailing activities will have ceased due to adverse weather. Also, physical activity is less so less heat is generated. For this reason, more clothing is needed than when dinghy sailing.

Wet suit or dry suit, wet boots, waterproof top layer

A Hat will improve general warmth massively. For best warmth, a fleece hat with wind block and ear pieces is perfect. A cap will help sun protection in warm weather. Hats need to be tied on so that they do not blow off!

Sun cream is essential as we are exposed to the elements for long periods of time

Generally wetsuits are more comfortable with a vest and pants underneath.

The warmth of wetsuits can be increased by adding layers of fleece outside (but under the waterproof outer layer

Socks inside wet boots improve warmth and make them more comfortable

Briefing at 9:30am changed and ready (unless otherwise organised with instructor).

This is a two day course. Arrangement for meeting on the second day to be agreed with the instructor.
