Barnt Green Sailing Club provides RYA accredited Dinghy Sailing courses for adults to level 2 on weekends throughout the year. Our 2-day training courses follows the RYA Dinghy Sailing Scheme syllabus with a focus on mastering the basic skills of dinghy sailing. We can offer places to both club members and non-members and there is a discount for non-members if you decide to join the club after taking one of our courses.

RYA Level 1 - Start Sailing Members £165 Non-members £200

The RYA level 1 "Start sailing" course is intended for novice sailors and assumes no prior knowledge. During the course, participants will learn to sail in all directions, including an awareness of launching and recovering. After the course, you will be able to sail confidently in light winds under supervision.

RYA Level 2 - Basic Skills Members £165 Non-members £200

The level 2 "Basic skills" course assumes sailors have successfully completed RYA level 1 - "Start sailing". During the level 2 course, participants will learn about rigging, launching, sailing in all directions, capsize recovery and gain essential safety knowledge. After the course, you will be able to sail confidently and make decisions in good conditions.

RYA Powerboat Handling Level 2 Members £165

The level 2 "Powerboat Handling" course does not assume any prior knowledge although it may be preceded by level 1 "Start Powerboating". This course is currently only available for members of Barnt Green Sailing Club.

During the level 2 course, participants will learn about launching and recovery, boat handling, securing to a buoy, anchoring, leaving and coming alongside, man overboard, close quarters boat handling, planing speed manoeuvres and international collision regulations. After the course, you will be be a self-sufficient powerboater in the right conditions, aware of your own limitations and those of your craft and make decisions in good conditions. The minimum age for course participants is 12 years old and candidates under the age of 16 will be issued with an endorsed certificate on completion.
