May Adult and Junior Sailing Training

18th - 19 May
1418477 1024xdne

This two day practical course is aimed at youth and adults from beginner level and up to those looking to advance their abilities.

OPEN TO NON-MEMBERS AND MEMBERS

The two days will be a mix of theory and practical sailing with an emphasis on getting into the boats and on to the water as much as possible.  The course will follow the RYA syllabus.  We have a fleet of adult and junior training boats which will be used through the course and we encourage participants to practice their skills at the family friendly club following the training.

  • Required experience - None through to have sailed before
  • Content - How to sail in all directions, including an awareness of launching and recovering
  • Certificate issuing criteria - Able to sail across the wind, steer and understand the basic principles of sailing
  • Format - Afloat
  • Clothing - The training will be mostly on the water and you should be prepared for all kinds of weather. The ideal would be a shortie or long wetsuit which are available for a broad range of places including Decathlon and Mountain Warehouse / Trespass. If the forecast is good then shorts and t-shirt will be fine and might be more comfortable than a wetsuit if it is hot. You will need shoes which will get wet during the course. You will also need a change of clothes to wear on the way home should you get wet.
  • Buoyancy aids - Buoyancy aids will be supplied for the course.
  • Daily Schedule
    • Registration: 9:00
    • Briefing: 9:30
    • Off the Water: 16:00
    • De-brief and Finish: 16:30
