June Junior Improver Sailing (RYA Stage 2 and 3)

8th - 9 June
1421005 1024xdne

The Improver Sailing course is aimed at children between 8yrs and 16yrs looking to gain their Stage 2 or Stage 3 RYA certificate in sailing.

OPEN TO NON-MEMBERS AND MEMBERS

These courses take children from the basic sailing covered by Stage 1 and introduce improved skills to allow them to sail a course and control the boat in different conditions.  Our RYA qualified training team will support the development of these skills using our fleet of junior training boats at our family friendly club.

  • Required experience - Sailing skills to the standard of Stage 2
  • Content - Improved rigging, sailing theory, launching and recovery. Building confidence in a range of sailing techniques on all points of sail and capsize recovery
  • Certificate issuing criteria - Able to launch and sail a dinghy on all points of sail or around a triangle in moderate conditions
  • Format - Afloat
  • Clothing - The training will be mostly on the water and children should be prepared for all kinds of weather. The ideal would be a shortie or long wetsuit which are available for a broad range of places including Decathlon and Mountain Warehouse / Trespass. If the forecast is good then shorts and t-shirt will be fine and might be more comfortable than a wetsuit if it is hot. The children will need shoes which will get wet during the course. The children will also need a change of clothes to wear on the way home should they get wet.
  • Buoyancy aids - Buoyancy aids will be supplied for the course.
  • Daily Schedule
    • Registration: 9:00
    • Briefing: 9:30
    • Off the Water: 16:00
    • De-brief and Finish: 16:30
