End of sailing season 2017

Published 07:46 on 23 Sep 2017

The photo (courtesy of Jon Smith and Robin Brown) shows the water level as it was a couple of weekends ago and it is now lower still.

Our water levels are expected to continue to fall quite rapidly for at least the next couple of weeks. The fish are going to be removed from Upper Bittell starting sometime during the first week of October and we will need to take all our buoys out of the water before that happens.

The committee have therefore taken the decision not to continue sailing beyond this Sunday 24th September.

Indeed, it is possible that the water may already be too low by then, but for the moment we are assuming that racing will go ahead on Sunday 24th. There will be no sailing in October and thereafter until the water returns.

After that we keep our fingers crossed that the valve repairs are carried out promptly and then we will all need to take up rain dancing.
