Thumbs up from the CRT

Paul Wilkinson, Senior Ecologist with the Canal and Rivers Trust, recently visited the reservoir as part of their ongoing survey scheme. Here's an extract of what he had to say.

"I couldn't be more pleased with how the conservation work on Upper Bittell reservoir has gone. Such a wonderful success with the scrub removal and regenerating wetland margins full of wildflowers and insects. The site is better now than when I first surveyed it back in 2017/8. It is important now to carry on this great work with an appropriate management plan to maintain and keep improving the diversity. I am also very please with how the mitigate pond has worked, it contained many of the species noted as important under the SSSI designation, and the reservoir has good diversity of aquatic plants."
