Open the flood gates!

The news that we have all been waiting to hear. Water levels are rising more rapidly at Upper Bittell now that we are well into the cooler autumn season.
Furthermore, the Canal and Rivers Trust is treating the refilling of our lake as a priority and as a consequence, have opened valves at Cofton Lake allowing water to flow into Upper Bittell. As you can see from the photo, courtesy of Robin Brown, there is still some way to go before we can get back on the water safely but the water level has risen significantly over the past couple of weeks.
One of the benefits of the prolonged low water is that we have been able to make essential repairs to the foreshore and banking. As you can see in the photo image, new concrete facing has been added to the shore to prevent futher erosion and undermining of the launching areas.
Hopefully, we may have enough water to be able to run our traditional New Year Race. Let's keep our fingers crossed and keep wishing for rain.
