A New Chapter: Commodore's Welcome and Our Exciting Vision for the Club
Published 11:57 on 25 Nov 2025
It is with immense pride and enthusiasm that I introduce myself, Simon Morris, as your newly elected Commodore. I am truly honoured to take on this role alongside the newly elected Committee.
First and foremost, I want to express my deepest thanks to the outgoing Commodore and Vice Commodore for their dedicated service over the last two years. Leading a club requires significant commitment, and their hard work has been invaluable in maintaining the club's momentum. We also extend our gratitude to all the departing committee members who have tirelessly given their time and energy to move the club forward. I'd also like to congratulate and welcome our new Vice Commodore, Jess Baker, and thank re-elected Rear Commodore Om Sanehi for his continued support.
The new Committee and I are incredibly excited about the next two years. We firmly believe the best years of our club are still ahead of us, and we are launching an ambitious plan, "Be More Club!", designed to achieve just that.
Our plan has six key focus areas:
- Youth Sailing: We are excited to announce our plan to form a Youth Sailing Committee, which will be driving more opportunities and support to develop our young sailors, creating a vibrant future for the club.
- Open Meetings: We aim to continue delivering successful and welcoming Open Meetings, strengthening our reputation within the wider sailing community.
- Women Who Launch: Whether you're a seasoned racer, a recent beginner, or someone keen to step up to a more senior role, we need your help to drive the development of our own focused programme of peer-to-peer mentoring designed by women, for women.
- Club Racing & Coaching: We will continue to offer challenging and enjoyable competition through fair and exciting club racing across all fleets, while also providing opportunities for skill development by bringing in experienced coaches and championing informal member-led coaching.
- Clubhouse & Social Scene: We are committed to rejuvenating our clubhouse facilities and reigniting the club's social scene to ensure the club is an enjoyable place to be, both on and off the water.
- New Formats: We have exciting plans for the Team Racing Challenge 2026. This will be a fun, introduction to team racing, open to all members. This is your chance to learn a new racing discipline and have some competitive fun!
I'd like to warmly welcome the new Committee Members who have joined us through the revised application process. I am genuinely thrilled to start working with everyone who has pledged their support for the club. There are still opportunities for every member to help support the club through the coming year, and I'd encourage everyone to get involved.
Don't forget that we have our annual Club Christmas Party and end-of-year Prize Giving on Sunday, December 21st! Let's celebrate the achievements of our racers in the Arden Estates Late Summer Series, Late Wednesday Evening, Frostbite, and the Personal Yardstick series. Details to follow shortly.
If you have any questions, ideas, feedback or just want to get involved, please don't hesitate to speak to me, my fellow Flag Officers or any Committee Member. Our goal is to support you, our Club Members, so we can all share and enjoy the sport we love for years to come.
I look forward to seeing you around the club and on the water.
Kind regards,
Simon Morris, Commodore, Barnt Green Sailing Club
