2007 Information for new members from Rose Padmore. Membership Secretary (2007)

To all new members a VERY BIG WELCOME and I hope the club is proving to be an exciting and fun place to be.  Please be aware that ‘seasoned’ members are not always sure who is a new member and there may be a tendency for them to get on with things without making allowances for those who haven’t quite learnt the ‘club ropes’.  The secret is to introduce yourself, ask for help and advice and you will find that we are all only too willing to oblige.

A special ‘Welcome Back’ must go to Nicola Attwood, who has well and truly returned to the fold and Congratulations to Martin and Michelle Chadderton for the arrival in February of very new member; baby Isaac, and to Brett and Rebecca Stevenson, sailboarders, who were married very recently.

The Open Afternoon held on Saturday 28th April was, once again, an ideal opportunity for us to show the club off to potential new members and my sincere thanks to all willing team members who helped to set the scene beautifully!

Contact details of members that did not make it to print for the 2007 handbook are on the green supplement sheet at the end of the summer newsletter – please keep it safely with your handbook!  And on the subject of the annual handbook; please note this is a very important resource and includes a lot of information including the club diary and duty rota lists; and I strongly recommend that you keep a copy by the family phone or on the fridge door!!  If you have mislaid your copy then do let me know as I have a few spares.  Much of the information is also on this website including the duty rota.  Any duty rota swaps can be advised to web admin. for updating onto the online rota page which can be viewed here   Web admin. Email here

To finish; I invite all new and new-ish members to drop me an email or give me a call if you have any queries at all.

An RYA Teaching Establishment and RYA Champion Club

We would like to welcome you to sailingbarntgreen.com, the website of Barnt Green Sailing Club and feel sure that whether you are an experienced sailor or a newcomer to the sport you will gain a great deal should you decide to join us.  Much of our activity is centred on racing but we also encourage informal sailing outside the racing programme.  We are an RYA Recognised Training Establishment and our training programme includes adults as well as juniors.  Organised racing at the club takes place on Sundays (morning for the sailboards and afternoon for the dinghies) and on Wednesday evenings during British summertime.  We also enjoy casual sailing at other times especially on Saturday afternoons during the summer months.  We invite you to browse through our website and if you are interested in taking it any further, please get in touch either by email or telephone.  The details are on our Contacts page.  If already you would like to know more it may be that you will find answers to your questions by visiting our FAQ  page.

BGSC is one of the premier sailing clubs in the West Midlands and membership is open to all categories.  We are set in North Worcestershire yet only a short distance from the Birmingham boundary.  See our Location page for directions and map links.

Whatever your decision we wish you "Happy Sailing" !

VOLVO RYA CHAMPION CLUB SCHEME

The Club was one of the first within the UK to achieve the status of Volvo RYA Champion Club. To maintain this status the facilities and training at the club are regularly reviewed, and are also inspected by the RYA. We are committed to supporting the RYA Youth Classes (including Cadets, Optimists and Lasers) to running race training courses and to increasing the numbers of instructors and Club racing coaches.

The benefits to the Club are:-

·        Improved status and profile.

·        RYA support through the RYA's High Performance Manager.

·        Encouraging Juniors and Youths into Regional Development, Intermediate and National Squads.

·        Two free days coaching a year from visiting RYA coaches

·        RYA manuals and supporting literature.

·        Free training for potential Club Racing Coaches

·        Free places at Coaches Conferences and Champion Club Seminars

This amounts to a partnership between the Club and the RYA.  It is a developing programme and if you wish to know more please contact Mike Powell.

In July 2007 we introduced a page for the club and members to advertise boats/boards and gear for sale, you can visit this page here
