The club is very keen to ensure that it provides training for juniors, in a safe and fun environment. We are a recognised RYA Training Centre and RYA Volvo Champion Club. Our training is based on the RYA Young Sailors scheme syllabus, using qualified instructors, and takes place both on and off the water with regular debriefs.  These courses are for children aged 6 to 16 years and are open to both members and non-members. We try to ensure that we cater for a wide range of abilities, from complete beginners to sailors competing at national competitions. The club has a training fleet of Optimists, cadets and Pico’s so it is not essential that you have your own boat.

It is important that parents also start to learn what sailing is all about so we ask that someone with parental responsibility is always at the club during the training.

Easter Training held on 9th, 10th and 11th April.

Report on Easter Training :  The weather was great for the three days of training this Easter, with light winds, sunny spells and generally warm. Forty four juniors had great fun sailing Optimists, Cadets, Pico’s and Lasers. Some learned the basics, others honed their racing skills, while parents relaxed in the sun. The instructors, headed by Senior Instructor James Hall, provided excellent tuition for six groups, including lots of games on the last day when the wind almost completely died!  Everyone enjoyed the atmosphere and facilities at the club, not in the least because the Galley provided breakfast and snacks throughout the day. There were eighteen non-member juniors attending, with some new members joining following the course. Thanks to everyone who contributed towards the success of the event.           Mike Powell.  Junior Sail Training Principal

A report on the August  Junior  Training held on 27th, 28th and 29th August.

The weather was mild for the three days of training this

August, with light winds most of the time.  Twenty four juniors had great fun sailing. There were 3 groups – Optimists Beginners, Optimist Improvers and Cadets. Some learned the basics, others honed their racing skills, while parents relaxed.   The instructors, headed by Senior Instructor Jess Baker, provided excellent tuition which was appreciated by all.
