A message from Chris Pack, Sailboard Class Captain at Barnt Green. The 2007 Seavets Prime racing event at Barnt Green will be held on Saturday 9th June. Please put the date in your diaries and excuse my presumption that you are all over 35 of age and are therefore eligable to enter this event! We look forward to welcoming visiting Seavets to our club as usual. Regards Chris.
Well, it was held but the wind forgot to turn up! It was hot, sweaty, pumpy and occasionally, grumpy but, by the end of the day everyone seemed to be happy enough, glad to be in the bar drinking beer and cheering Mike Playle for winning as usual, well done and now, some reminders....
The Seavets 2007 Open Meeting at Barnt Green Sailing Club

John Price, rescue (a busy day?) helping Hugh Norris rig his infamous 'spanish sail', Carl Taylor, rescue, looks on. Robin Brown and John Pullan in the background fiddling about and you can just see John Preston, AOOD, sitting on a trailer

I heard Dave say this, by the end of the day, I agreed with him! (Robin, not the best days sailing he's ever had, Brown)

Waiting for wind, Robin Brown, Gordon Britton - Race Officer, John Price - rescue and Gordons assistant, John Preston.

John Pullan who pumped very well that day in spite of a recent return to sailing following a visit to hospital and Dave Pashley, heading for shore.

A pint of beer, two bottles of wine, Mike Playle - overall winner, Gordon and Rosalie Britton and Barbara Pack who kindly catered for us.

Barbara and Chris Pack. Chris organised the event, he's our Class Captain you know and was very pleased with the day handing over a decent sum for the Research into Aging charity so that makes it all worth while and justifies all the pumping and struggling to get anywhere with flukey little zephyrs picking up sailors around you whilst leaving you behind going backwards. Do I sound bitter? Not a bit of it, these things are sent to try us and by being useless at pumping that day I didn't have to suffer the blistered hands that some people went home with! There's always a silver lining once you can think of it. Now the thanks bit... Thanks to:- Chris and Barbara - a great day due to your efforts. Gordon Britton - the drollest Race Officer ever. John Preston - the drollest assistant race officer ever. Rosalie - for reception and looking after money. John & Carl, the rescue men for moral support. Anyone else who helped - I can't remember, must be my age and finally, our Seavets visitors without whom we wouldn't host the day and raise the cash. Well done to the wine and medal winners, you did deserve one. |
Report cobbled together from distant memories on 25th October, very late in the evening so it's good night from me and hope to see as many Seavets as possible in 2008 when we can do it all again in loads of lovely wind that I know will come, please! Robin Brown. P.S. We did do some racing but it's not worth trying to remember them 'cause I didn't win them. P.P.S. I'll put the results on here if Chris can find and email them to me.
