Barnt Green Sailing Club – Seavets Prime Racing Series Event

Barnt Green once again hosted an annual Seavets event, this year held on the 10th June. There were 17 entries.  (16 sailed, one had to withdraw)

Report by Gordon Britton

This was one of those perfect days one always hopes for, and not just the competitors, but the race officer and his helpers too. The sun shone in a cloudless blue sky, the reservoir was almost full, the water was crystal clear and, above all, we had lots of planing and not too much swimming. Pumping was noticeable by its absence.

An ‘M’ course was set to give an interesting beat followed by four planing reaches. Competitors were so happy with the course that it was left unchanged for all four races.

Tony Chandler, # 7975, planing well and on his way to third place overall.

Mike Playle led the way for the first three races gaining three wins and would also have won the fourth race had he not incorporated a bit of sub-aqua into his display. He was closely followed by Graham Inkley who achieved three second places and a first. Third place went to Tony Chandler with a second and two thirds.

Mike Playle, # K15A, overall winner of the event, being bashful and hiding behind his sail !
