In October 2007 a company called Serfis Construction were contracted by the Sailing Club, under the control of Stuart Howe, Commodore to lay a mixture of concrete (by the Rib and Bosun's sheds, to link with the Cadet slipway, see below) and tarmacadem (in front of the old clubhouse and up to the OOD box) complete with concrete edging. This project has been part funded by a grant and partly by Club funds. It is specifically to aid our members, especially young/junior members, to man handle their boats around in an area that has been awkward for many years. The old broken slabs with their high risk of tripping are a thing of the past. This will surely be the project that we will remember Stuarts Commodoreship by more than any other and there have been many in a most active two year stint at the helm. Below are five pictures taken during construction of what your scribe has nicknamed "HOWE'S HIGHWAY"

Lovely new sign above, dirty old sign (on a stick) below and what a splendid road !

The long and winding road is now almost complete. (Can anyone lend me a skateboard for Sunday? RB)

Under consrtuction photo's by Stuart Howe, taken on 11th October 2007. Road finished photo's on @ 14th.
The club owes a debt of gratitude to Stuart for all his hard work and web admin. gets an opportunity here to thank him on behalf of all the members.
Members will also be pleased to hear that the contractors will be repairing potholes and the road way edge on our main access road, the bridleway, during week commencing 15th October.
The October 2006 major project was construction of a new slipway........
Here are two pictures of the new junior slipway taken by Stuart Howe during two of his many visits to the club recently to help Bob Allen oversee the work done by the contractor.

Above, 18th October 2006 and the slip is shuttered and hard core laid ready for the concrete to be poured from the many readymix lorries that came to the club on the 24th. Below we see the new slip after pouring of the concrete. Tidying up is yet to be completed but already the slipway is looking splendid and should make a vast difference to the ease with which our Junior members will be able to launch and recover their boats.
