Chris Pack kept finding tasks that convinced him he really shouldn't go out on his board in all that wind !

The safety boat crew, on the other hand, had no choice, here we see Chris Stringfellow and Richard Ash bringing in the Jaffa's.

There he goes again, convincing himself it's just too cold now, only 5 degrees, water and air temperature ! After erecting the sailboard sail rack, emptying the row boat, checking the temp. chatting to yours truly about how impossible the conditions were for two unfit well wintered sailboarders the decision was made, support the club finances and go for a glass of 'murky', Cheers ! By the way, look how full the lake is, bodes well for the open meetings this season.

However, suitably clad dinghy sailors began to arrive by lunchtime and it was clear that no amount of wind and chilliness would stop them. Actually, the wind had eased considerably by now and it was much warmer, at least a knot and a degree ! Here is our sailing secretary, Keith Heyes, carrying out a hasty repair to his Solo. Below are a pair of Lennox Ladies getting a Laser ready, Rob is just off to the right. That's Rachel and Hannah, or is it Charli? No, I think it's Hannah. Rachel was the first person to go afloat in the series, pictured below the image of the two girls. Shame about the blurred shot, taken from a long way away on full zoom with shivering hands, she was having some fun reaching across and back prior to the race. | |
Your scribe and photographer left at the beginning of the first race so for more information, check out the top three's results. Other sailors who braved the N' N' Easterly about force 5 conditions, harsher than most of the days in the snowflake series, were Commodore, Brian Allen, (Solo) pictured at the bottom of this page, Bob Suggitt (Solo), Kelsey and Josh (Yes, I did see your Lark capsize itself the moment you launched it and one of you jumping in to get it back!) Too slow to get a picture of it though! Rob Lennox, Rory Jones and Julia Powell (Lasers) complete the list as far as I know.
Words and pictures - Robin Brown "Personally, I'm waiting for temperatures in double figures"! |
