The "Boathouse" Venue, set in north Worcestershire countryside

THE “BOATHOUSE” VENUE OVERVIEW

Barnt Green Waters Ltd. Manage the estate of the Bittell Reservoirs complex.  They authorise the two clubs to operate within the estate and control the letting of the "Boathouse" Venue for functions including, the training and seminar facilities outlined in this website.  The "Boathouse Venue has been used by the two clubs as their clubhouse since its conversion from an old boathouse in 1980.

A Little information about the Clubs.

Barnt Green Sailing Club is one of the premier sailing clubs in the West Midlands and membership is open to all categories.  We are also an RYA Teaching Establishment and RYA Champion Club.  Sailing and Windsurfing take place on the 80 acre Upper Bittell reservoir.

We would like to welcome you to the Club and feel sure that whether you are an experienced sailor, or a newcomer to the sport, you will gain a great deal should you decide to join us.  Much of our activity is centred on racing but we also encourage informal sailing outside the racing programme.  We are an RYA Recognised Training Establishment and our training programme includes adults as well as juniors.

The Club was one of the first within the UK to achieve the status of Volvo RYA Champion Club. To maintain this status the facilities and training at the Club are regularly reviewed, and are also inspected by the RYA. We are committed to supporting the RYA Youth Classes (including Cadets, Optimists and Lasers), to running race training courses, and to increasing the numbers of instructors and Club racing coaches.  Full details about the sailing club can be found on the website  www.sailingbarntgreen.com

Barnt Green Fishing Club was established in 1888 by the fishing tackle industry then thriving in Redditch.  The Club has five waters, Upper Bittell Reservoir, a canal feeder, Lower Bittell Reservoir and Mill Shrub, both originally river balancing waters for the river Arrow and Upper and Lower Arrow pools.  Upper Bittell is a coarse fishing water, holding roach, bream, tench, carp, eels and pike, all other waters except Lower Arrow (carp) are run as trout fisheries and stocked throughout each year with (mainly rainbow) trout.

The Club has two basic levels of membership, Full Membership and Associate Coarse Fishing, and whereas Full members have access to all waters, Associate Coarse Fishing members hold permits restricted solely to Upper Bittell.

The Club welcomes applications for either level of membership though it must be stressed that it is a ‘fun’ Club administered by a Committee that is keen on maintaining an ethos that focuses on sporting values and respect for the waterside environment.
