Laser Open meeting 2008 report and images  (More pictures to follow)

Report on Laser Open Meeting at Barnt Green Sailing Club by Sam Woods   Cloud and 15 knots of wind greeted the 15 sailors to the Laser Open at Barnt Green Sailing Club on the 19th April. With the numbers down on last year mainly due to the forecast conditions the competitors set out for 3 races with the course set by race officer Pete Best.   In the first race, which saw the only recall of the day, the leaders came from the left side of the first beat. After the first lap Tom Hayes had soon taken control of the race and pulled away from the fleet with an impressive lead.

This is the only image showing the winner of the meeting, hopefully, another picture can be produced.   Race two saw another clean start on a very even line, this time the right paid and Tom Hayes appeared at the windward mark, along with home sailor Rob Lennox. The rest of the fleet chased down the close reach before the long blast down the lake, by this time the leading pair of Hayes and Lennox had pulled out a substantial lead on the rest of the fleet. This is how it finished with Hayes winning his second race and the open, Lennox second and Matthew Holbourn third.   Left : Steve Harper 130478 (3rd place) battling it out with Rob Lennox 17911 who came in fourth and was 1st Barnt Green sailor.

The final race saw the closest race of the day, with 5 boats constantly jostling for 1st place, while Hayes sat out the race to enjoy the warmth of the clubhouse.
