Barnt Green Fishing Club

Barnt Green Fishing Club is an old established club which was formed in 1888. It celebrated its centenary a few years ago. The club provides a wide range of fishing opportunities in an attractive and peaceful environment very close to the West Midlands conurbation.

The club is managed by a Fishing Committee consisting of Full Members.  A resident full time bailiff is employed by The Barnt Green Waters Ltd and his services are shared between the fishing and sailing Clubs.

Full Members are shareholders in Barnt Green Waters Ltd. Annual Coarse Fishing Members are not shareholders and pay an annual licence fee to fish. This licence is normally renewed from year to year. Full Members are entitled to full use of all the club's facilities, which include trout fishing on payment of an additional subscription. Rainbow trout are stocked into three pools each of which have their own character and are of varying size. The largest pool is large enough to accommodate bank fishermen and four boats are provided for members use. The smallest pool can accommodate up to three bank fishing anglers. The remaining pool is fished with one boat and there is ample room for bank fishing on this pool. Full Members also have a coarse fishing pool reserved for their exclusive use.

Coarse fishing is provided for Annual Coarse Fishing Members on the largest of the complex of pools owned by The Barnt Green Waters Ltd. This pool, Upper Bittell Reservoir, is shared with the sailing club whose principal activities take place on Saturday afternoons, Sundays, Wednesday evenings and various other evenings as required. There are plenty of bank fishing stations on this water. In addition two boats are provided for use by members and there is a third boat which is used as a transport boat to save lengthy walks with a lot of tackle.

The object of the Club is to provide high quality tranquil recreational fishing in attractive surroundings. The club's waters are within an Site of Special Scientific Interest. (S.S.S.I.) In order to maintain the quality of the fishing and the environment it is necessary to restrict membership. No day tickets are available but members may invite guests to fish with them on payment of a small fee. Members must accompany their guests and are responsible for their behaviour.

At times membership can be full but waiting lists are maintained and a limited number of vacancies occur each year. The length of the waiting lists fluctuates and it is impossible to make any accurate predictions of waiting times which can vary from a few months to a year or more.
