Cadet News, Spring and Summer 2006
A Cadet Open meeting is forming part of the Junior Helm Event on Saturday September 9th. (The real Cadet Open is on Saturday November 11th to coincide with the Cadet AGM being held again at BGSC) In order to allow a Zone Squad Indicator the RYA asked if we would allow the other Cadets in Zone to attend the Junior Helm. (There will probably be @ 4 non Barnt Green Boats taking part).

Two boats from Barnt Green took part in the Cadet Nationals at Weymouth. With Emma and Lucy Best finishing in 42nd place while Joe Taylor and Sam Evans finished in 104th. The club congratulates them on their achievements. The following is a link to the full results
It has been a good spring for the Barnt Green Cadets. With Cadets competing at a number of competitions, and taking part in the Easter training and Club Competitions. First of all though we should offer a big welcome to some new members, who we are hoping to see very shortly on the water in a Cadet. So welcome Josh, Angus, Harriet, Dominic, and David. We also hope to see the Kalinski’s, Alex and Olivia back on the water soon.
Remember we have three club boats that you are welcome to take out. We have checked the boats out to make sure they have spinnaker poles, and sheets etc, so we can promise that they are in good condition and ready to sail. Please use them. If you are looking for crewing roles then please do come along any Sunday, we will guarantee you at least one race as a crew in a cadet!

Katie Hall helming "Hot Property", she now runs the Sunday morning training sessions known as "Katie's Crew"
We also have to say some sad farewells to our class. For many years the two Kate’s have been the core of our fleet, unfortunately, it looks like both will be moving to new classes. Kate Hall has already been seen in her laser and I understand that Kate Smith also intends to compete in the senior fleet. I know my son owes the two Kate’s a big debt for their friendliness, openness and support they showed to him (and me) when he joined the Class. We have also lost due to the age rule a newer member of the fleet, Charlotte Bewley. I am sure the whole club wishes them well in their future sailing exploits and nothing would please us more than if Kate Smith decided to have one last year in the fleet to defend her title!
We are also delighted that Kate Hall’s boat is now in the proud ownership of the Pickworth’s. This year will see

Last year we saw the fleet grow to five and on occasions even six boats. I am sure we start the Summer with a healthy fleet from which to build. Joe, Tom and Sam have been members of the Zone Squad and have been training hard all winter and along with Emma and Lucy Best they have competed at a number of national events. Whilst I understand that
The end of last year saw the Barnt Green Open which attracted 12 boats six of which were from the Club and we were delighted to see a home victory with the Bests scoring two first places to win the event. We also had a notable success at the Zone Championships in Ullswater where Barnt Green Boats occupied two of the top three places!
In the Inlands at Rutland the Bests came 42nd whilst Joe and Sam and Tom came 85 and 88 out of the 95 boats in the main fleet with another 12 boats in the Regatta fleet. Whilst at the Parkstone indicator, Emma and Lucy came 22 with Joe and Sam in 84 whilst Tom suffered from an unwell crew to finish in 90th. The boys also competed at
Don’t forget to come along any Sunday and enjoy sailing a Cadet at Barnt Green. You will be most welcome!
